Discussion of the Week #1 : Newgrounds

So since I'm bored most of the time every week and this place wants for some activity, weekly discussion on something of random interest every week. I'll pick the topic, and you guys go nuts.

The topic this week will be about Newgrounds. What you think of it, what you've done past, present or future with it. Ever heard of it? or used it? Whats your relation to Newgrounds? Do u even give a shit? How has it affected you? have any questions?

You don't have to read the following, just my take is all.

Like many of us (altho probably not all), got our start from newgrounds. It was a great place to hang out. The way it was governed it was like an out of control downtown even tho there was still the occasional riot police to bust your bubble. Not like 4chan, but like a controlled madness. An encouraged madness if you will.

Not everyone thats heard of Newgrounds uses the BBS, but thats the place to be. If u ever wanted to get started to get involved in the newgrounds community thats where u ended up, or needed to be.

It's kind of funny really. When i first signed up on newgrounds i was mearly looking for something to do if not troll the place. I never thought of animation, art or flash during my choice of making an account. I just wanted to see what was so damn spiffy about those level icons. Just wanted to see how it worked.

Then it pulls u in like u know it does. You start posting there and u just can't stop. Then the next thing you know your trying to participate in things. Theres always contests and events going on. First thing I tried was my art skills because I wanted to participate in the C.O.W.

Thing is I had never used a digital medium before. I was mostly pencil and paper, more specifically pastel which is what I today base my art style on.

Then of course there was the pivot showcase, which many of u already know that story.

Eventually I ended up making flash collabs for Newgrounds and in a million years I never expected it to go so freaking well lol.

So newgrounds is apart of me. I'll never stop going there.

Well I found about newgrounds from my friend Wolf. We were friends in RL and all that. Anyway he showed me NG and introduced me to Madness animations. Later on I trolled the place checking out the new submissions, playing games, and all other stuff. There the collab came out and I joined the site and yeah thats pretty much it...

I <3'd newgrounds solely for the pivot showcase, then it died, now I dun really go there for anything, the end.

I used to go to Newgrounds before I discovered YouTube. That was a LONG time ago.

As most of you know, I mainly loved NG because of the Pivot Showcase, but I actually had been on the site for nearly a year before I even entered the Art forum. I mainly discovered NG through different games in which Newgrounds sponsored. I later found the BBS and the General section, which I lurked through for 10 months. The rest, is history.

lol... ng rules, i've been going there for a few years, but only realised i could make an account about 6 months ago.... really all i did was watch stick figure animations by terkoiz( practically one of my idols, the reason i've been saving up for a year to get flash!) but when i was just browsing the site(i'd been pivoting for 8 months by then) I happen across the pivot eztoon collab, checked out some of the other work,and practically fell in love with the smooth, fluid animations( particularly narf's work, and I'm not just saying that...), then spent the next 4 months getting my pivoting self up to a presentable standard, and dabbled around in eztoon(eventually getting bored) and then becoming a member of frame rate, etc., etc.... any way i've used it to make some friends, and i've also used it as a secret diary without the secret (lol), and i've also learned how to animate with powerpoint, convert it to a .swf file, and upload it onto newgrounds, thanks to razorshader. razor shader if your reading this, thanks man...any way i love the site, but hate what they've done with the format for viewing the flash content.
